Starting Fresh

Embracing New Beginnings in the New Year

As we begin a new year, it's the perfect time to reflect on our goals and set a positive direction for the months ahead. One powerful way to do this is by choosing a word that encapsulates your focus and intention for the year.

Question: What's Your Word for the Year?

Inspired by leadership expert John Maxwell, selecting a theme word can provide clarity and motivation. This word becomes a guiding light, influencing your decisions and actions throughout the year. So, take a moment to consider—what word resonates with your aspirations for this year?

Reminder: The Power of Systems Over Goals

"You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems." — James Clear

As you set your goals, remember that consistent habits and effective systems are the engines that drive success. It's not just about setting lofty goals but about building daily routines that move you toward them. Extraordinary achievements often result from doing ordinary things exceptionally well.

Encouragement: Embrace the Power of "No"

Remember, "No" is a complete sentence.

Setting boundaries is essential for personal growth and well-being. Sometimes, we need to say no to good opportunities so we can say yes to the best ones. This isn't always easy, but it's vital for focusing on what truly matters. For those in leadership positions, the book "Boundaries for Leaders" by Dr. Henry Cloud offers valuable insights on how to manage this effectively.

Challenge: Turning Challenges into Opportunities

The past year presented many unexpected challenges and learning opportunities. While we can't skip over difficulties, we can choose how we respond to them. Reflect on how your experiences have shaped you. How can you use your story to live out your purpose? Is there someone you can support or encourage this year?

Surprise: Embracing New Adventures

On a personal note, by January 25th—my birthday—my husband Aaron and I will be moving to the Pacific Standard Time zone. In an unexpected turn of events, Aaron was handpicked to step into a leadership role at Edwards Air Force Base. We're excited to embark on this new journey, driving across America with our dog Rory and embracing the adventures that await us.

Looking Ahead

As we step into this new year, let's focus on growth, set meaningful intentions, and support one another on our journeys. Whether it's choosing a guiding word, building strong habits, setting healthy boundaries, or turning challenges into opportunities, each step brings us closer to our goals.

I encourage you to share your word for the year or any goals you're setting. Let's inspire and motivate each other as we navigate the year ahead.

Blessings to you and yours for this new year!

Liz
