Breathe
The #1 Tool that We Often Forget
What is the number one coping mechanism/tool when you are hurting, anxious or stressed?
Breathing.
Part of me wants it to be more complex or less obvious. But think about it...
Sad? We take a heavy sigh.
Happy! Our lungs are overflowing.
Scared or Stressed. We may hold our breath or breathe shallowly.
As a collegiate softball player, my teammates and I used to roll our eyes when our coach made us practice breathing exercises. But secretly, I did find the exercises helpful, especially during tough games.
Aaron and I find ourselves in challenging situations during command. At night when I walk the dog Stone, I pray for our teams and ask for wisdom, discernment, and favor. To be honest, I sometimes find the quantity and complexity of the problems overwhelming. Stone attentively stares at me with his tongue hanging out (it is 103 F here) and reminds me to breathe.
My challenge for the quarter is to become a better breather. While it may seem silly, my initial research has me encouraged. I am currently reading the book: Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art.
I'm curious if you know any tips, tricks, or resources? No matter what, please know that I am here for you and encourage you to take a deep, long breath :)

Fun fact: Hebrew scholars, when looking at God’s Sacred Name (YHWH, YHVH), have concluded that when we breathe, we breathe the very name of God. The sounds of each letter in Y(A)HW(E)H are the sounds of our breathing.
“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being.” (Genesis 2:7, NKJV)
